The first McMullan's originally opened in July 2001
in the basement of a 100 year old building located
on the corner of King and Princess in the core of
Uptown Waterloo. The facility was greeted by thirsty
neighbourhood patrons immediately. The space over
the century had seen many uses including auction
house, restaurant, warehouse, print shop, livery, and as
a practice hall for the local philharmonic orchestra. It's
most notorious use however was as a garage during the
American prohibition in the 1920's. Late at night barrels
and cases of untaxed alcohol were transported by
underground tunnels from the Huether Hotel across the
street and loaded into cars and trucks for distribution
across southwestern Ontario and subsequently to the
United States. It seemed destiny when Chuck McMullan
built the pub on this site considering that his great
grandfather made a living running booze across the
Detroit river during prohibition and owned the first
Cadillac in Windsor Ontario. (His Grandfather's
brother was also involved in the John Labatt
kidnapping but that's a story for another time.)
The original plan was for McMullan's to be a "Canadian Pub and Grillhouse" but it was not very long before the popularity of pizza and beer took off and McMullan's became the "Canadian Pub and Pizzeria" that it is known as today. Recognizing the potential of the draft beer brewing industry McMullan's was the first pub to carry a wide variety of draft beer choices served properly in a comfortable atmosphere provided at great value. Ten years after the "McMullan's on King" started doing business a second location "McMullan's on Highland" was built and was also greeted by thirsty Kitchener patrons.
In September of 2015 the original site in Waterloo was sold and so now there is only one. You can still get a great pizza and beer deal at the Kitchener location and you won't have to worry about ghosts bothering you while being served by the wonderful staff.
We would like to thank our loyal customers for making McMullan's their hospitality destination for 17 years and invite new customers to discover "McMullan's on Highland" truly a Canadian Pub and Pizzeria.
